I'm not trying to say Windows Defender is worse or better. ![]() How an AV performed several months ago is not as relevant as a more recent video on the same product. ![]() Make sure to pay attention to the video dates. His videos do a reasonable job of showing what would actually happen should you let your guard down one day and accidentally end up with malware or PuPs on your system. He does work for Emsisoft, but his channel and opinions are his own and not endorsed by anyone. I'd also suggest looking at this YouTube channel. It uses more system resources to provide the same (sometimes less) protection. While Windows Defender managed to put up similar numbers to vendors like Bitdefender or Kaspersky, they have had consistently higher false positives and more importantly, the performance test showed that Windows Defender is also the most inefficient out of all of them. Sure, it might be closer to the "real world" where you don't execute multiple programs and have multiple payloads being delivered, but it doesn't do much to differentiate between the different security suites. If you look at the test scores, you can see this. Be aware AV-Test (linked by easytechguides), is often criticised by security professionals and enthusiasts as being too lax in their testing.
